Nightmare Remodeling doesn’t need to happen! :)

Nightmare Remodeling doesn't need to happen! :)

Since the economic crash in 2008 when many builders went under there were many construction people looking for work who started doing remodeling out of their truck but not necessarily understanding that remodeling is a different animal from new construction. Therefore, people were ill informed and there have been many nightmare stories about remodeling projects gone bad.

However, businesses such as SpaceMakers Remodeling has been in the remodeling business since 1994 and the owner Rick Grindland was a new construction builder prior to that. Here are just a few things that sets us apart…

1) Our Electrician has been with us for over 20-years.

2) Our Plumber (30-years experience), Interior Designer (20+ years experience), and Architectural Designer (20+ years experience) have been with us for several years.

3) Angie’s List Super Service Awards 2012 through 2017 for quality workmanship and service, quarterly honor roll with excellent ratings in the categories of Pricing, Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality, and Professionalism. Angie’s List membership is now FREE and you will have access to reviews and offers from services and products for your home.

4) Working with a reputable Cabinet Gallery offering a wide range in quality cabinetry vendors and collections with custom options. A division of the Arrow Building Center, the Arrow Cabinet Gallery continues the company’s 100-year long traditions of outstanding workmanship and quality customer service.

5) When one chooses to go with SpaceMakers Remodeling for their project, we do not charge for our architectural CAD drawings and we do not charge for revisions, no matter how many (a $1500 value).

6) We are able to give ballpark pricing on our first visit and provide a formal quote that’s realistic and as accurate as possible to meet your wants and needs. Rather than giving the lowest pricing then doubling it later. We do not believe in this philosophy and shocking our clients. What we’ve noticed since the economic crash 10 years ago, is that homeowners have gotten smarter, researching and have become better informed.
art1Here are some helpful tips to avoid a nightmare remodel.

1) Make sure the business has been around for at least 5+ years.

2) Ask if they are licensed and insured?

3) Check their Better Business Bureau BBB rating. SpaceMakers has an A+
4) Ask who their subcontractors are and how long have they been in business?

5) Check Angie’s List reviews.

6) If you’re doing a gut-out kitchen or bath project or a project that requires an interior designer or architectural drawings, be sure the firm is a full design-build company. Design-Build are turnkey so you do not have to worry about permits and inspections, scheduling of subcontractors and getting the work completed on time. Should something happen the firm covers you 100% with warranties.

7) When getting your bids be sure to be apples to apples. Many companies will give estimates with base-line cabinets, lowest grade of granite counter tops and low allowances for your selections which we call “low balling” to get the job…then the job doubles in cost when you select what realistically meets your wants and needs.

Whew!  A lot to think about I know but definitely worth your time, effort and research abilities!  It is a lot of money but still can be a very fun process!
